Re: What "other" BEVs are for sale in Ohio?

VW e-Golf is available in WA, but not Colorado or Ohio. Almost 1000 sold so far this year...

WA is not a CARB state, so we don't get the CARB only cars.

Re: What "other" BEVs are for sale in Ohio?

The question is in the title. A friend (who is convinced that EVs are absolutely not for him) seems to think that BEVs are available from the major auto manufacturers "anywhere". I'm thinking that compliance cars are sold in California and a few other places, but not in Flyover Country. I...

Re: Drive range questions

The motor is 6 phase, and is computer controlled. The computer will energize phases, one at a time, to make the car move. If the computer energizes 1,2,3,4,5,6,1,2,3,4,5,6,... the car goes forwards. If the computer energizes 1,6,5,4,3,2,1,6,5,4,3,2,1,... the car goes backwards. If the phases are mo...

Re: Where are all the Bolts in MN?

Every day for 3 weeks I got a message from the car warning of the danger of not being plugged in during extreme cold. This could present a problem for us in the Midwest when everyone is driving an EV in a few years - we can all plug in at home overnight, but what to do when the temperature is 20 be...

Re: Driving in "L" when it is slippery

The only potential benefit I can see of "D" mode is that use of the brake pedal can engage the rear brakes as well as the front ones. But here's the thing - light application of the brake pedal in "D" mode engages regen first anyway - so you still slow down using only the front ...

Re: DCFC's come to Interstate-5... finally!

How about an overnight at a campground with 120V charging? Most campgrounds would be able to give you a 240V/30A or 240V/50A hookup, the latter of which will charge the car at full L2 speed. That's exactly why I carry a TeslaTap with a Tesla UMC and several AC cords for it. "30 Amp" at ca...

Re: DCFC's come to Interstate-5... finally!

Hopefully just teething issues. I am willing to give them a little time to sort it out and get better. But I feel you. Nothing is worse than expecting a QC to be ready for you only to find that it is out of order and you have to go somewhere else. Especially if that "somewhere else" is L2...

Re: Drive range questions

I recently watched a very cool you tube video from Weber Sate University called a deep dive into chevy bolt drive unit. One of things I was curious about that was not covered is what happens in L range and R range. I have a theory that reverse is accomplished in the single power 3 phase inverter wh...

Re: Battery Charge Capacity

For over a year I've been charging the 2017 Bolt in the garage using a level 2 240v charger. After a full charge, the mileage shows (approximately) max = 285 miles, average = 250 miles. The last two full charges using the same charger and settings, the max was only 245 and the average was 220 or le...
