Re: Rumors of adaptive cruise control? And more?

Charge slider is overrated. We would never consider it as anything useful. It's a carryover from the Leaf1 days when the rumor was that not charging 100% protects battery longevity. It did not, nor it does today. Source please. https://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_base...

Re: Cheap Ebay Chargers 32/40 amp

I have a question about a TeslaTap. We have a Chevy Bolt, and would like to visit a town which is about 180 miles away, which is in range with a full charge. To use the TeslaTap at a public charging station, is it correct to assume that I will need an app to pay for the charging? In this town, a ne...

Re: First Use of JDapter Stub for Tesla Destination Charger to Chevy Bolt

What about an affordable adaptor for CHAdeMO to CCS? Any experience? Wouldn't be easy, so probably isn't affordable. Communication protocols are rather different. Would need, at minimum, a battery powered microcomputer with a CHAdeMo on one side and a CCS on the other. Even that might not work, the...

Re: California Lags in DC Fast-Charging Station Density for Electric Vehicles

SparkE, thank you very much for taking the time to provide this detailed response. I should have checked myself before posting. Plugshare is crowd sourced. That can be good. But sometimes you get a report that isn't quite accurate. Or worse. It is not a bad first place to look. Do have your ...

Re: Cost of charging?

And WetEV - did you mean AC-to-DC converter? Done in two steps for every system I've looked at. Rectified and filtered to DC with some ripple, then put into a DC to DC converter. Amusing. A Youtube teardown of a power supply, including a "cat move a little bit. Go go go." https://www.yout...

Re: Cost of charging?

Thanks. I am not sure why it would be more efficient, but I have not seen any technical discussion of the process. This isn't a graph of the Bolt's charger, which is just a high power DC to DC converter with an adjustable output voltage and current limits, but is of a more common part with much low...

Re: Cost of charging?

One of my friends has a Bolt; another a plug-in hybrid Clarity. Both have been told that a lever 2 charger costs less to use than a level 1 charger. My engineering intuition tells me that a kilowatt-hour delivered to the car costs the same at 120 v or 240 v. Am I missing something or are my friends...

Re: Level 2 charger

The 30A outlets I used to charge at RV parks 5-9 years ago in my converted car were 240V, verified by my energy meter which reads out AC voltage, current, power, and accumulated energy. I don't know much about RVs themselves. Are you sure these were not 50 Amp outlets? Almost all RVs use TT-30 or N...

Re: Level 2 charger

You can charge from a 30A or 50A outlet, but you will need a portable EVSE and the correct adapter plug (30A dryer) to do so. You can get both at: https://emotorwerks.com/store/residential For those of us that travel to areas with no public EVSE the above permits charging at RV parks. 30 Amp RV is ...

Re: Level 2 charger

Any opinion regarding level 2 home chargers? Wirecutter.com likes the Siemens unit. Are there any good ones that are BOTH level 1 and 2? I don't want to pay for a 240v line to my carport, but a permanently mounted charger seems like a good idea. I spoke with a friend who had is charger stolen out o...
