Re: Off grid charging my 2020 Bolt

Presumably, your off-grid system is charging a fairly robust battery bank: is it lead-acid or some lithium flavor? What output do you have from that BMS; i.e., is there a signal available you could use to energize/de-energize a contactor? What percentage of your PV power output goes to the 240vac 10...

Re: Need tips on traveling from Los Angeles to SF

Even though travel during this Thanksgiving period should be seriously curtailed, I would avoid travel before and after Thanksgiving as charging station availability may be iffy.

Re: Reoccuring Rodent Damage

... this wasn't discussed when the Bolt was presented as environmentally friendly!

We have good luck with a barn cat which adopted us and lives both outside and in the garage with its own cat door. Often leaves us 'presents' (with long tails) at the doorstep.

Re: Has anyone driven a Bolt S.F. Bay Area to Tahoe or Yosemite yet?

Back on topic - I once drove a Mitsubishi i-MiEV (EPA range 62 miles) with CHAdeMo from the Peninsula up to Tahoe via Highway 50. Left at dawn and arrived at Incline Village at dusk after driving around the lake. Visited friends along the way, and made the return trip down through Grass Valley (stay...

SparkE, I've referred a number of people to your excellent post (above) as it's a great summary, especially for newbies to EVs. Thank you.

Re: Update on Non-Tesla DC Fast Charging Station Density in North America

Paul, thank you very much for publishing this update, and nice to hear that AFDC will be updating their metrics. Anecdotally, I concur that the DCFC networks in BC and Quebec are well-developed and were much appreciated during our Canadian Tesla tours with CHAdeMO adapter. I'm bemused by EA having t...

Re: AAA: EVgo waives the monthly membership fees

UPDATE The normal EVgo membership is $7.99/month and a roughly 10% reduction in charging cost relative to non-members, and 1/2-hour of 'free' charging. What AAA membership gives you is waiving the $7.99 monthly fee, having the 10% reduction in charging cost, but NO 1/2-hour of 'free' charging. Even ...

Re: AAA: EVgo waives the monthly membership fees

Update So, I signed up and in reviewing my account online at EVgo I saw that I had two contracts for my account: my previous one ($7.99/mo) and my new one shown as AAA and free. It showed my previous contract expiring on December 21. My normal monthly credit card debit for $7.99 was processed on De...

Re: AAA: EVgo waives the monthly membership fees

SparkE, thank you very much for this lead. Hey, $8x12 months almost covers the cost of the AAA membership! I wonder if we still get the first few kWh covered by the plan each month for up to the $8 for 'free'? I just signed up and clicked that I already have an existing account and went through the ...
