Re: Two questions?

Thanks very much for that tip, SeanNelson. Does the owner's manual advise that you can connect Chevy's charger to 240V outlets with an adapter? If not, how did you learn this? Nope, not in the manual. I learned it from this thread - it discusses the EVSE that comes with the Volt, which is the same ...

Re: EV CHarging at home

L6-15 is a 240V outlet (the 120V version is L5-15). Nonetheless, you CAN use an adapter because the charger cord (the "EVSE") that comes with the car can work with 120V or 240V. That's not true of all EVEs, so if you buy a different one the same advice may not apply. The adapter itself wo...

Re: Regen question

D is for highway when you want GRADUAL speed changes. Like coasting down an off ramp. L is too agressive for high speed use. You’ll piss off those behind you or get rear-ended with a pedal release in L at 65 mph. I really don't understand comments like this. You can slow down as gradually as you wa...

Re: Waze on Apple CarPlay

You can now run Waze on Apple CarPlay. A problem I am having is when you try to click on a post to get details, say an accident or police siting, nothing happens. When I do this on my phone the details appears in a pop-up. Is anyone else having this issue when using Waze? Thanks! I'm not a Waze use...

Re: Regen question

Since the brake pedal ALSO causes regen,, how can it be less effective than one pedal mode or the regen paddles? If I slow down with regen, how can it matter which way the car is told to regen? I suppose that if I were to brake hard enough to actually engage the brake pads that would be a differenc...

Re: EV CHarging at home

Oh, do EVSEs have a fuse? Or are they required to actually limit current? I thought that they didn't limit the current they provide at all, that they are a cable that can be improperly used just as an extension cable can be misused. I thought that they simply TELL the car what the car should pull, ...

Re: EV CHarging at home

The adapter itself won't affect how much power the car gets - that's controlled by the EVSE which will only allow the car to draw 12A from the wall socket. The car will charge twice as fast at 240V as it does at 120V. Sean, while effectively true, it isn't really correct (the underlined above). The...

Re: Battery usage while idling

...a big Mercedes sedan pulled in, the engine cooling fan making a roar. A woman got out, told the man driver, "You stay with the car and keep it running to stay cool while I go into the store." Here in Vancouver there's an anti-idling city ordinance - vehicles are not allowed to idle for...
