Re: San Gabriel Valley to Las Vegas by Bolt EV

I've done the same drive three times so far. In the ICE car I'd usually drive 75-80, while in the Bolt I'll go slower. I set the cruise to 72 and look for trucks, vans and SUVs that are going a similar speed and let them break the wind for me. Following a Suburban at 75 at a reasonable distance is m...

Re: So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

Buy a NEW 2019 Bolt EV for $26K less tax incentives!?! What am I missing here? The $26k might be a unicorn, but I've seen a claim somewhere that some dealer in CA was offering that. I can't find it now, but did find this that showed a dealer offering $29k for a new one, including one that appears t...

Re: So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

For the last two months, I have recommenced driving for Uber and when I do it full time, I am driving approximately 1,000 miles per week. At this burn rate, I will run out of miles in mid-September and then accrue approximately $3,500 in penalties by the end of my lease. If I obtain another vehicle...

Re: Test drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas

Abe: I second BoltyMcBoltface’s advice. Drive inthe right lane. Trucks have a speed limit onthe I-15 in California of 55 but consistently drive at 60 MPH. Drive at a safe distance behind a Semi . Use Cruise Control and drive in “L” to get automatic regeneration when it is activated. If the Semi tur...

Re: Test drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas

Knowing that some drivers won't like me hanging out back there... Really? That's news to me - if you maintain a safe distance then what's the objection? I'm not trying to dispute you, but I hang out behind trucks from time to time and if I'm unwittingly pissing them off then I'd like to understand ...

Re: Test drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas

Hi I'm completely new to this forum and EV driving. I'm hoping to get my bolt in the next month or so. I am totally interested in driving from Apple valley to Vegas. It's slightly closer than Victorville. I've been on a few sites that say the cars range won't make it due to the mountains. I have se...

Re: No deals right now?

Is anybody seeing anything better out there? I'd suggest checking EV-vin (http://ev-vin.blogspot.com/). It's a regularly updated list of the best advertised lease deals. Right now it looks like Sierra and Community have the best deals in SoCal. I got mine at Community almost a year ago. Mine was th...

Re: Amazing low cost to run an EV

That $24 for 800 miles sounds more reasonable to me. I suspect the other changes I can't adjust for counts for the difference. Thanks for answering the question. Anybody else with longer term experience who can indicate what I should expect? I won't actually know because the Solar Panels will pay i...

Re: Bolt EV drive to Lake Arrowhead

I went up there a few weeks ago, just for a few hours visiting relatives. I found the climb much more peaceful than in a gas car, where the engine is constantly revving for the climb. Even with a nice V8 rumble I'd eventually tire of the engine noise, but with a little four-banger working hard it go...

Re: has anyone found success with TOU (time-of-use) rates at home?

oilerlord wrote I'm (still) of the opinion that L2 charging is essential, I'm going to differ with you on that. For some people it will be essential, but for many it won't be. Charging overnight on 120 can easily give 50+ miles of range, and that's plenty for daily driving for many people. I've bee...
