Max L2 charging is 32A, a higher rated EVSE won't charge the Bolt faster

Re: Leviton L2 won't charge my Bolt

The contactor closes the circuit when the EVSE and Bolt finish negotiations. What could make the EVSE open the contactor could be many different things: 1) Bolt detects a low voltage and stops the charge session, perhaps your EVSE was installed incorrectly and the BMW was less sensitive to voltage d...

Re: Best charger for a 90-mile commute

What I don't understand is why GM didn't provide a full-blown 240VAC 32A EVSE with a simple 120V adaptor already plugged in and awaiting removal when a 240V outlet becomes available. The plug should be an NEMA 14-30/50, with a neutral blade that it will fit both NEMA 14-30 and 14-50, and perhaps de...

Re: What is maximum charge rate you've seen?

Why are so many people eager to destroy their batteries? Many, many folks already believe 50 kw is stressful to the batteries. How about some facts instead of beliefs? There are many, many people who regularly DCFC'd their EVs for years without destroying or damaging their batteries. Now my opinion...

Re: NOT HAPPY with brake lamps in L mode.

The Spark EV initially didn't light the brake light when regen braking. Going down steep hills I actually preferred that as I could hold my speed with just regen braking and lighting up the brake lights was, IMO, not sending the right message to cars behind me. They probably thought I was an idiot r...

Hi Dave, are you a Bolt owner now? Drop me a line sometime. Last time I saw you was ages ago in Las Vegas.

I got a Bolt when my Spark lease was up.

Re: Best charger for a 90-mile commute

But then why recommend 8A? If the contactor is rated at 12A and switches at 0A then how much better would 8A at 240V be than 12A? The point of the 8A option is to protect the house wiring, not the EVSE. 8A is all you need for the range you specified in your original post and the time you said you h...

Re: DC FAST CHARGING

why wouldn't GM put DCFC in every car? Considering the importance of DCFC, even with respect to resale value, I think GM deciding to make DCFC an option is somewhat irresponsible - especially when the buyer doesn't even know what it is. Crazy that it's a $700 option, too, when it's simply some thic...

Re: Chevy Bolt races Golf GTI and wins

According to MotorTrend the Bolt EV is rated at 6.3 seconds for 0-60mph, and the GTI is 6 seconds for 0-60 mph. Also according to Motor Trend, a VW GTI does a 14.5 second quarter mile @ 96.7 mph. They list the Bolt at 14.9 seconds @ 93.1 mph. 0.4 seconds doesn't sound like much, but in drag racing ...
