My check engine light came on after the car complained about trouble getting into park. Is there a way to get details without calling on star?

A Bluetooth OBD adapter + Torque Pro (for an Android phone, don't know what iOS solutions there are) should do the trick.

I haven't set it up yet (picking up my Bolt tonight), but apparently you can get some really nice detailed status/power consumption info using Torque.

If you have an AutoZone nearby, they'll read the OBDII codes for you (hoping you buy the parts from them). Then just google them.
