Android Auto not working

My Bolt doesn't recognize my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) or my husband's phone (Samsung Galaxy S8) when plugged in with their original factory cords. Both phones have the Android Auto app installed. The projection icon on the Bolt screen never changes to Android Auto. When I press the projection icon, I get an error about compatible device not detected. Has anyone else had issues with Android Auto? Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help – it would be really nice to be able to see maps on the screen!

I heard those models have been tricky getting to work with the Bolt. You may be better served going to a Samsung-based forum for answers though.

The "Projection" button will never work because as soon as the phone is properly detected, it will not say "Projection" any longer. That is one way I can see if mine isn't working right.

Steps to try:
- Restart the phone
- Connect the phone when the car is already "on" and no other apps (including Android Auto) are running on the phone. (It should automatically launch when connected)
- Restart the Bolt's head unit (by holding Home and Track Forward for 5 seconds or until it noticeably restarts) and try the previous steps again.

Those steps only bring you back to a "clean" start but don't correct any issues beyond that. Others here may have more specific resolution hopefully.

No problem w/my Galaxy S5 - plugged in or not.

In fact, I turned off Bluetooth to prevent Android Auto from working because it would take over my phone and drain the battery everytime I got in the car.

I feel better off w/o it.

If those phones came with a cord and a power brick that plugs into the wall, the cords may be "charge only" cords that don't work for data transfers. Find a cord that's known to transfer data and try it.

Especially since GM CEO Mary Barra promised it as an internal feature of the Bolt EV in her keynote address to the 2016 CES!

Your experience is another reason why we got hosed by GM! At least you could use your internal Nav in the meantime while you fix your problem.

Of course you can use OnStar Nav in the meantime as well; something I have never attempted BTW.
