When I complete my drive, I keep getting an OnStar request to update my Entertainment system software. I keep postponing it.

I do not want to lose my ability to play MP4 movies on a flashstick. Reportedly, this feature was deleted when upgrades earlier this year were installed; upgrades that I refused at my local dealer.

Does anyone have this experience with this upgrade?

I did the update, but I don't encode movies to MP4, so it didn't bother me. Getting full screen Android Auto was worth the update. You could just re-encode your videos?

Yeah I think you're right, the update completely breaks what was a picky system to being with. I can't for the life of me get ANY videos to play (JPEGS show, so I know it's not my thumb drive)

I've tried every encoding scheme in Handbrake, every extension, every CODEC, a mess of different resolutions, I think it's just busted after the update. Unfortunately for the group, I don't care about it enough to bother to explore it much more because we can watch the movies on phones or tablets (or more likely we're taking a meal or park break when we're charging as a family) so it largely doesn't matter.

Would be nice if GM would weigh in on this :)

They purposely removed the feature.

I enjoy the larger screen than on my 6+ iPhone.

That wasn't "broken", it was deliberately removed.

Try the Handbrake settings for Legacy: AppleTV. I use it and it works, although I am still experimenting to get Full Screen.

Also the flash drive itself may be the problem, so try another by a different manufacturer

If I can get it to attach, upload and view, here is a jpg photo of my display while actually playing an mp4 with an HP (Hewlett-Packard) flash drive:

Also, it is better to hear the soundtrack through the BoltEV sound system, than through an iPad, etc:

Also, you may have already had the update installed.

I just found this thread, which explains it in more detail and has instructions for full screen:

Read a great tip somewhere for videos encoded smaller than 1280x800, there is a “full screen” button on the lower left of the display.
