This seems like a pretty special use case to me, it's not something that I'd knot my knickers over. I have no doubt that it would be cheaper for the dealership to use grid power if it was available, so they're probably only doing this because it isn't or on a temporary basis while they wait for the needed service to be installed.

The biggest point to me is that there are so many unsold M3s sitting on the lots. It seems to me that the "maintenance" charging could be done with the [included] 120 volt charging cable and some extension cords.

When 'our' Chevy Bolts are selling at less than 2000/month, I don't see where Tesla is going to sell 5000/week, which I believe is the production rate. Now that the Tesla fanbois have their m3s, I don't have a good feeling about the company, and I really do want them to succeed.

I'm a little skeptical about long-term demand too, but it should be noted that Tesla is building for a global market while GM is mainly building just for the US and a handful of other countries.
