Next week I am going to drive from Santa Cruz to the Black Oak Casino Resort in Tuolumne, CA.

I previously did this trip two years ago in my Chevy Volt with of course no problems.

Using Plugshare and Google Maps, I see that it is 184 miles but uphill heading into the edge of the Stanislaus National Forest, north of Yosemite National Park.

I will take the Pacheco Pass to Interstate 5 and then make a safety stop in Ceres, CA at the Flyers Gas Station EVgo after 124 miles to "top-off."

The remainder of the trip should then be uneventful at 63 miles.

Black Oak informs me they have EVgo Level 2 chargers available in their parking garage.

After three nights I will then drive down to Los Angeles, using Hiway-99 and its many available DCFC stations (primarily EVgo) for the one expected charging stop that I will need in this 327 mile drive.

Sure would be nice if any of those Interstate-5 DCFC's, promised for 2017, would show up!

Yup. There are supposed to be a slew of ChargePoint sites added on I-5, both CP and EV Connect sites added down CA-99, as well as Recargo sites added along US-101 (50 kW sites).

Not only that, for the drive to Tuolumne, there are *plans for* two ChargePoint spots (2 plugs at each) : Tracy & Oakdale (either would get you to Black Oak Casino easily) AS WELL AS a 2-plug DCFC EV Connect site in Manteca.

I *really* wish the CEC and who-ever-else is responsible would get those damn DCFCs installed! Grrrr.

PS : plugshare shows 5 Tesla destination charger plugs, as well as 2 EV plugs (that appear to be Clipper Creek units, from the photos) at Black Oak. That "Tesla-to-J1772 adapter" is looking better and better ...

Thanks for your tips, but I got the flu so for now, the trip is canceled.

I rarely come across those Tesla style units, so I can't justify the cost of a converter for one trip.
