Summer is here, the season of road trips! Do you have tips for long distance road trips in an EV?

A few suggestions from our Facebook & Twitter communities to kick it off...
  • Ben: Bring an adapter for RV Parks if you plan to travel through the central or mountain time zones.
  • Sunil: Use regenerative braking [and] switch to eco mode at high speed
  • Ed: Instead of the interstate, take the secondary roads [for] better scenery and better ev range.

Ok, I'll bite. Recommendations for such an adaptor? Many RV parks have two types of outlets: 30A (120V) and 50A (240V). Can anyone here recommend a good EVSE that can pull up to 40A from a 50A RV plug? That should fully recharge almost any EV on the road overnight.

Oh, and as for adding a tip:
  • PlugShare - check it early for a plan, check it often for status.

Not all RV parks have 50A. Many have just 30A TT-30's. 120V, 24 amps charging. An adapter for RV park usage should have both options covered. I don't know of any that can be bought out of the box that can do both. Not even Tesla, but there is (might be? I have not seen a physical one) a third party solution:

Does Chargepoint have a travel adapter that can handle both RV outlets? With automatic current level switching?

If they don't, they should know that there is a potential market for one. I would certainly consider it, if it was the right price. The closest thing I know of is the "JESLA" or "JESLA Jr" from Quick Charge Power. But that's an adaptation of a Tesla cord, and a pricey one at that. I'd love to see more options like that.
