Re: Bolt = Big battery?

I often wondered if I could run a small 12 v inverter off my bolt 12v battery in case of emergency . I imagine you keep your amp draw on the dc side of inverter within the exceptable charging amps of the bolts 12v battery system. I will also look into the possibility of extending or disabling the 2 hr max shutdown of the bolt . It’s troublesome to me when I sleep in my car when iam on call and like the ac running in summer

There are several workarounds for the stupid timeout and auto shutdown. I mentioned one at https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/using ... ost-520812.

Someone else in a FB group suggested another simpler one but I'll need to find it again and try it the next time I have an extended outage.

I had to run my fridge, some lights, laptop and other stuff for over 24 hours at a time via my Bolt an inverter off the 12 volt bus w/the car in READY mode "thanks" to two PG&E PSPSes we had last year. :(

Yeah, n/a in the US but over 7000 of these systems installed in Japan as of late 2017. See my pointer at https://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=504949#p504949 about that figure.

I have some other pointers for Nissan's and Mitsbushi Motors's efforts at https://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=571901#p571901 including what I saw at Tokyo Motor Show 2019. A copy of the PDF I pointed to can be found at https://web.archive.org/web/20171011110 ... -Japan.pdf.

There are numerous V2x boxes for CHAdeMO: https://www.chademo.com/products/v2x-product/.

I have an external 12v pack, to which the DC/AC inverter is connected to power critical loads. That external 12v pack is replenished by the Bolt's 12v via a jumper cable for fast power dump, or through a boost charge controller.

Isn’t that perpetual motion??

no, energy flows from main HV pack to 12v aux to external 12v to house. Eventually the Bolt big pack gets depleted, then I have to make a run into town to "refill"
