HV battery capacity

Mon Dec 28, 2020 7:02 pm

What is the available capacity of the high voltage battery? Do cars of different years (2016-2020)?

2017 to 2019 were allegedly 60 kWh while 2020 got upgraded to 66 kWh (https://www.sae.org/news/2019/12/chevy- ... -add-range). You can see the bump in EPA range rating via https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do ... =sbsSelect.

That said, I've seen the table at https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/2020- ... ost-570642 suggesting the 2019 has a bit more battery capacity than 2017 to 2018.

Not quite clear. From the information given, for a 2017 car - 57 kWh

There was no '16 Bolt. First model year was '17, delivered in mid Dec 2016: https://media.chevrolet.com/media/us/en ... oltev.html.

I wouldn't charge it to all the available listed capacity. Charging to 90%, or 95% at the most, is the best way to prevent fires, or at the least should allow the battery to last longer.
Li-ion batteries normally have an unavailable "cushion", not allowing the charge system to fill them all the way up anyway. It's only a matter of how much the designers think should be there with the given Battery Management algorithms (cell balancing, rate-of-charge modulation, etc.).

I think - the electronics itself will limit the battery charge, if it has the proper software, without errors.

I definitely notice an improvement in range on my 2019 over my 2017.

Just anecdotal
