Sure - why do just an AWD? They should make an SS version too. Stiffer suspension, higher power motor, larger wheels, and of course a huge spoiler :)

And improved efficiency. The AWD Teslas are more efficient than the RWD systems. They have geared the second motor in such a way that it improves miles/kWh at cruising speeds.

Where's the popcorn icon? This discussion is getting interesting. I think there is such a broad range of what people want, evidenced by the literally hundreds of different vehicles currently for sale. Cheap ones, expensive ones. Big ones, small ones. Passenger, utility. 2wd, Awd, 4wd. etc etc...

Without the CARB credits, the picture would be pretty bleak, especially when counting for the $billions spent on development. Some of your numbers are off. For example, a motor controller can easily cost $4000-$5000 for a 200 horsepower system. Also, vehicle computer and infotainment system...

I'm sure someone could come up with a pop-out side mirror if the technology really needed a backup - but there are much more important systems in an electric vehicle that don't have a backup - like the brakes!
