new Bolt extended warranty a good idea or not?

Is the warranty from GM, or is it a third party warranty being marketed by GM? Many third party warranty companies have gone belly-up, leaving the purchaser with a worthless warranty. If the warranty is being offered by GM, it’s very likely they’ll be around in 10 years, third parties, I’d...

    Nitrogen in the tires

I use helium, I had to add a couple of bags of Sakrete in the trunk to keep my Bolt from floating away.

    Winter Tires & Wheels

I wouldn’t recommend using a torque wrench to remove wheel lug nuts, a simple and cheap 1/2” breaker bar is a lot easier to use, and you won’t risk damaging the torque wrench, or throwing off the wrench’s calibration. A 4-way lug wrench is also handy, the Bolt’s lugs are 19mm, or 3/4”, a size...

    What MPGe are you getting?

At 70 mph you will never get the rated 238 mile range, regardless of the outside temperature.

Winter, hilltop reserve, and battery conditioning

There’s no way to control battery warming in cold weather, it’s done automatically as determined by the car’s battery management system. Not sure if GM designed this to provide just the “bare minimum to get you rolling”, but whatever the engineers determined is required cannot be overridden. I...

LT Options - what's worth it, what's not?

The heated seats and steering wheel are nice options. I especially like heated seats for my aging lower back, and the heated steering wheel works well. I have the Kinetic Blue color, which I got because it was the only car on the lot with the options I wanted: DCFC and heated seats. The Bolt’s...

    Why connect to Wifi?

I stand corrected. Thanks for the explanation.

    Level 2 on the cheap

Thanks, that makes sense. I couldn’t imagine what “cable” would cost that much. For an even cheaper option, the standard Bolt L1 EVSE can be plugged into a 220v outlet using an inexpensive adapter. Charge times would probably be about three times that of a L2 32-amp EVSE, but the cost is...

    Windshield not defogging properly

+1 on keeping the inside of the windshield as clean as possible to help prevent fogging. I’ve had no issues with the front defogger, even on very cold and rainy days. It works well for me.

    Why connect to Wifi?

I agree that this is a solution in search of a problem, I had no idea the Bolt can do this, and I also have no idea why anyone would want or need to do this.

    Why connect to Wifi?

The Bolt Wifi is available for free for a trial period. If you don’t have an unlimited data planusing WiFi will save you the data usage vs your cellular plan. My free WiFi has expired, but I did use it during the trial period, I didn’t notice any performance difference vs the phone’s cellular...

    Level 2 on the cheap

I’m confused by your post. What cable did you purchase from Amazon for $260? Did you buy an EVSE, or are you using the Level-1 cord that came with the Bolt?

So do you think they'll really kill the federal $7500?

News reports today that the Senate version of the tax bill retains the $7500 credit. We’ll need to wait to see if both the House and Senate versions pass, then it will be up to the conference committee to iron out any differences, before a final bill is voted on in both houses. Still, that...

So do you think they'll really kill the federal $7500?

GM will lobby hard to keep the $7500 credit, and many other manufacturers have plants in southern states that lean Republican, so there’s hope the credit won’t be killed. You can bet a lot of state governors are also lobbying on behalf of those manufacturers. The $7500 credit isn’t a big...

So do you think they'll really kill the federal $7500?

You test drove a Bolt with only 27 miles of range? Time to find a dealer that cares enough about making a sale to provide a properly charged car for testing. Dealers do have chargers, many have Level 3 high speed chargers that can provide 100 miles of range in well under an hour, especially if...
