Ioniq vs Bolt: 124 miles or $9,280?

The OP asked whether the 2017 Bolt or the 2017 Ioniq was a better car. He/She didn't ask whether it was a cheaper car. He/She didn't ask about hypothetical Ioniq in year of our Lord 20XX. By stating that the Ioniq EV "target audience are California residents", you essentially agreed that it's...

Ioniq vs Bolt: 124 miles or $9,280?

I did not say that Ioniq is unattractive to all buyers. And neither did I say I couldn't put an Ioniq to good use, to the tune of 20K miles a year easily. The point is that the 2017 Ioniq doesn't have the range to fill the role of the only vehicle of a typical US owner. This seems like a...

    Rate Chevy Bolt

Frankly, I do not understand Ioniq's purpose on the US market. Even as other manufacturers (who want a slice of action in the upcoming EV party) are sweating blood to come up with a 200-250 mile, highly distinct car, Hyundai surprises us with a 120-mile Ioniq EV that looks like a facelifted 2009...

    I love my Bolt!

I am Prius-trained, and I drive every car as if it were a hybrid, usually achieving 10-15% better fuel economy than the EPA estimate. If I drive the Bolt in this mode an on my normal routes (a little bit of everything), it returns 4.8 mi/kWh, translating into theoretical 288 mi on full...

    Virginia anyone?

Next time I go to IKEA, I'll l  k out for your Bolt. I live at the northernmost tip of VA and circulate in NoVa for a couple of days a week. I am yet to see one single Bolt (that's not mine) on the road. Which is kind of weird, because Bolts have been in Virginia dealerships since Feb...

The Chevy Bolt Is the Ugly Car of the (Very Near) Future

What the Bloomberg pen-pusher (along with many others) overlooked is that the Bolt ushered in the era of pragmatic, affordable long-range EV's. Not everybody invests money into a car to salivate over its (supposedly) "sexy" shape. I need my car to carry my work gear, for which I need a hatch...

Flat Tire after one week--Car had to be towed

Perhaps I should post this question in a separate thread: where can I get a donut-style spare wheel? Has anyone done that? I do not have 100% confidence the self-sealing tire notion, unless the penetrating object is a small nail or screw.

Unfortunately Bolt is still a compliance car from GM

Whatever for would they need another compliance car? Don't they already have the Spark (and possibly the Volt, which is kind of electric, too). I think it's more like real-life feasibility study, because Bolt happens to be the first utilitarian, non-exotic, long range EV.
