Using the Bolt to Power Your Home (V2Grid) or (V2Home)

warning: not for the faint of heart, beware of lethal DC voltage, access via the heater orange plug

Using the Bolt to Power Your Home (V2Grid) or (V2Home)

I have two different set up. The older set up is similar to the EVExtend, but to charge an external 12v 4kwh LFP pack, which powers a 2kw pure sine wave 120vac inverter. The external 12v pack acts as a buffer/cache for the Bolt, as the Bolt will time out after 90-min. The time-out can be...

Using the Bolt to Power Your Home (V2Grid) or (V2Home)

I've heard some rumors that 2017 Bolt has CCS1, which is not bidirectional. Am pretty sure you can set limit the utility company drawn, plus it would be an occasional demand, hopefully. With regard to outage backup, how much wattage/current can your inverter pull ? My setup was using the 12v...

Using the Bolt to Power Your Home (V2Grid) or (V2Home)

is the V2G/V2L ultimately to participate in this PGE bidirectional energy flow ? we have been using our EVs as outage back up for years. But outage backup, essentially an off-grid configuration, is quite different than grid feed in V2G. It's completely doable however. The 60kwh pack has...

Can Bolts charge at Tesla superchargers yet?

are more Magic Dock Stations coming on line ? any info on schedule ? I charged at one about a year ago and had thought the expansion would cease as most manufacturers are adopting the NACS plug. Many, such as Ford, Rivian, Volvo..., are sending owners CCS-NACS adaptors this year...

I bought my 2017 Bolt EV about 3 years ago and I assume it was a lease turn in.

head-on and side winds can really reduce the range. Hopefully the Bolt guessometer will eventually get upgrade for better accuracy. For example, Tesla's destination estimate of remaining charge includes elevation. It claims to also include wind data, but I haven't experience that yet.

Newbie. Waiting on my 2020 Bolt EV LT

this charging schedule may not be most cost efficient, though it is more electrically efficient; because of different time-of-use rate plan.

    My Flawless (almost) 2017 Bolt

Drove off the lot on 1/1/2017 with an Orange Blast LT, with DCFC extra option. It's around 116,000 miles now. Got new pack thru the recall around 97kmiles, though the old pack was just fine. We didn't notice any degradation. A nice 'feature" with EV is the capability to have the rear hatch...

    Seven Years of Bolts!

Pick up our 1st Bolt on 1/1/2017, going strong at 110Kmiles, approaching 1st "major" maintenance of changing transaxle, cooling system fluids. First set of tires was at 70kmile, 2nd set is doing quite well. For a 1st release, the 2017 Bolt has been quite impressive. Really wish it has stop...

    Fraudulent Recall?

check availability again, the replacement pack has been plentiful in CA lately

    Used 2017 Bolt with 115,000 miles-need advice

by the way, upon making appointments for our Bolts for the battery replacement, I asked the Service Manager about the 100,000 miles warranty. I was told that the recall is effective regardless of the mileage. So yeah, jump on whatever best deal out there before the replacement

    Changing cooling fluid.

In fact, the battery pack cooling system should have been drained, replaced, and purged as the coolant lines were disconnected in order to put in the new battery pack. I believe the Bolt has 2 other coolant loops: the electric drive motor system and the cabin heating/cooling system

    Changing cooling fluid.

I think it's a total money grab. The one challenge with DIY coolant change is the procedure to purge all air bubbles. My plan is simply drain the reservoir, add new coolant, drive a few days; repeat a few more time. The idea is to slowly dilute the old coolant with newer coolant without ever...

Battery Degradation with high mile usage

I'm one of those "Tesla" user living at the supercharging stations. The Bolt's charging profile is really conservative, maxing at about 54kw and tapering to 24kw rather soon. That's less than the 1C of the 60kwh pack. My 2016 with 90kwh Tesla is now limited to 120kw max. I don't think it's a...

    Used 2017 Bolt with 115,000 miles-need advice

My 2-cents: get it ASAP. Call a chevy dealer service department and ask about the battery recall, I am guessing that because it's a safety recall, it is covered regardless of mileage. I don't think it's an issue of fast charge only, provided that the SOC (charge state) is kept between...

Electrify America EV Charging Payment SNAFU

Finally got the chance to use EA on I-5 in CA between SJ-LA. The over all system is improving, though there is room for improvement, mainly in operational reliability. Some observed problems: some stations put out only 15kw while the next one can go over 50kw, most touch screen exposed to hot...

Installing a AC120V pure sine wave inverter.

Best to keep the big DC line short and run the higher voltage 120vac long. Also mind the max wattage and size the DC cable accordingly. Has any one found a way to keep the Bolt on for longer than 90-minute ?
