GM not paying for Battery Recall !!! News

Just heard that GM is, well, not paying much for the Bolt battery replacments. Just $100 million dollars, out of the total $2,000 million dollars (2 billion dollars) cost, so that's 100/2000 = 5% of the cost. LG pays for 95% of the massive cost. This means GM can proceed with current profits...

Moving on, but loved my Bolt

Wondered about that, so I went to tesla.com. ......... Tesla pulls some weird shee-at on their website when it comes to pricing. The Tesla Model 3 is still a great deal at it's cheapest base price, no doubt though. I see a strange "Gas Savings" applied to the purchase price, a whopping...

Moving on, but loved my Bolt

I just checked, and the Tesla Model 3 "standard range plus", their cheapest one, has a $38k MSRP. Are you saying you can get one for $8k off MSRP? I didn't know that. I thought Teslas just went at MSRP, unlike other makes who haggle of course.

    RECALL

5 out of 69,000 worldwide .. Seems only the Korean made batteries are the issue. The latter half of the 2019 model year up to present day are not under the recall, as they have American made batteries. That's not many, about 1 in 11,000 odds, and about on par with some gasoline cars...

Moving on, but loved my Bolt

One more thing to add about the JD Power GM Authority statements on the Bolt: They say the Tesla Model 3 isn't "mass market" like the Bolt or Niro or Leaf is, so they didn't include it in the graph, even though the Model3 scored much higher than any of the others. Now, the Model 3 sold about...

Moving on, but loved my Bolt

How many Bolts are being bought back? Seems like a lot. GM keeps secrets though. People like their Bolts, but the Niro spanks it: " The Tesla Model S and Model 3 were the top ranked premium EVs with scores of 798 and 790, respectively."...

    RECALL

The Focus had no big battery issues for the most part (LG Chem). ...........The pinion shaft recall wasn't too bad. It was a mechanical metallurgy problem where somebody forgot to surface-harden (carbonitride) that part in the differential, kind of a freak quality control issue, no big deal as...

    RECALL

I've seen some internet discussion that I think identifies GM's tactics in this bizarre safety-engineering-legal-marketing problem: GM uses Lemon Law buy back values, different in each state as you point out, as a way to squash lawsuits (there's at least 2 class action lawsuits bubbling up...

    RECALL

Lemon Laws have nothing to do with the Buy-Backs. A Lemon Law needs to have a bunch of repair attempts with no solution. That's not happening here. ..... When a Bolt is on fire, it simply gets replaced under warranty, & any other burned structures handled by GM in a settlement. Only 5 (1 in...

    RECALL

Sounds good. About the time you wrote that, I caught this from Electrek: "A pivotal point for GM ...... GM is at a very fragile point in its history right now. The company just announced its refreshed Bolt EV, and brand new Bolt EUV. GM has committed to going all electric by 2035, with 30 new...

    RECALL

Why all the Buy-Backs going on if there is a solution coming this month? Does GM believe in the solution at this point in time?

    RECALL

The Kona also recently had a software-only "fix". Now they are recalling all the batteries. What is different about the Bolt's software-only "fix"? Will there be any explanation, in detail to help people understand the fire risks going forward, of the way this is being fixed, and the case...

    Towing behind RV/ regenerative charging

Maybe easier to just find the Occupancy Seat Sensor wire, and put a switch on it. I assume switch-closed means an occupant is there, so tap the wire before the switch and run the other side of the new switch to ground (normally switch is kept off of course). Wiring diagram needed.

    Towing behind RV/ regenerative charging

I thought it was only necessary to be in the seat to start the car, not keep it in drive after you get up. The creeping thing is a problem though. ... On the other hand, it would be a good design practice in EVs to have them automatically go into L or P to keep people from having their cars...

    RECALL

Wow, some Bolt owners under the recall get great GM buy-back deals!! https://www.reddit.com/r/BoltEV/comments/l2raxb/gm_repurchased_my_bolt_i_just_deposited_the_check/ I've read about a couple of other stories, some leased where they refund the leasee all their payments (nice!) minus about 33...

    News about Bolt Battery Fires

Anybody know what the software update did? As in, was it simply a range-reduction to 90% charge like the Bolt gets, or do the Battery Management algorithms get changed to maybe slow down the amps near the 100% charge level as it is hooked up to a charger? Or more frequent charge voltage bank...

recall work done on my Bolt without my consent

No legal case because the "damages" are very very low. Small Claims court could handle it, but it would be difficult to collect anything. True that service departments are suppose to tell you what they plan to do. I can see how you might think you don't need to cut range by 10% since only 1...

The Chevy Bolt Is the Ugly Car of the (Very Near) Future

I don't know if the Bolt will become the next PT Cruiser of the used car world. I wanted a used Cruiser at one point, then realized people would label me as a tasteless nerd, so, just like the soccer moms who eschew mini-vans for SUVs, I surrendered to peer pressure, no Cruiser for me. Of...

    News about Bolt Battery Fires

Dani C., Good communication, customers are grateful for something. Usually, in the past (pre-Barra for sure), a lot of hiding happened. This is better. Promisiing a breakthrough soon is a little nuts. These problems can be tricky. Forcing customers to go into dealerships is not good. For 3...

    HV battery capacity

I wouldn't charge it to all the available listed capacity. Charging to 90%, or 95% at the most, is the best way to prevent fires, or at the least should allow the battery to last longer. Li-ion batteries normally have an unavailable "cushion", not allowing the charge system to fill them all the...
