Ultra-Fast-charging just around the corner ???

We aims to please! I can’t wait for 100 kW units to be deployed here in the US and get a chance to see just what the max rate is. Got OBDII reader and app all ready to start logging data.

    Programming Garage Door Opener...

My 2005 Prius came with a Homelink compatible rear view mirror. My 2012 Plug-in Prius base model didn’t have one. In order get a homelink compatible mirror, I would’ve had to upgrade to the Advanced model which was $8000 more (~$40K versus ~$32K).while I would have gotten some additional desired...

There’s another thread on that site...

Ultra-Fast-charging just around the corner ???

~55 kW on a 100kW charger is the max that our Norwegian Ampera-E cousins have seen with SOC below 50%. It’s a 20% improvement over what we’re getting on 50 kW units here in the US. If the Bolt were able to pull the max of 200A from the wall it would be at low SOC, which means a pack voltage...

    "Auto" HVAC questions

When you the car set to Auto, all you can do is select a temperature. The car then decides how to adjust the fan speed, heat/AC on or off, vent mode, and recirc mode, to achieve that desired temperature. Typically if you are trying to rapidly cool down the interior of a car, you want recirc on...

Bolt roof blocking garage door opener signal.

I have no trouble with the remote clipped to my visor. Works from a distance, and works closeup. A while ago I had a problem with another car and remote, but it turned out to be a problem with the LED lightbulbs that I had installed in the openers. Apparently they had really noisy power...

Optimum garage temperature for your EV

We park our Bolt in the driveway, outside. Overnight temps during the winter are typically in the mid to upper 40’s, though we do get a few trips to the mid to lower 30’s. I leave the car plugged in at night.

Towed To Dealer after 2 weeks 351 miles

You had three distinct events happen here: 12V battery died, crappy OnStar service, and a crappy tow/jump-start service. I suspect that if the tow/jump-start experience had turned out a different way, the crappy OnStar and dealer experience would be non-existent. Or at least severely reduced.

Towed To Dealer after 2 weeks 351 miles

I can easily think of how this happened: 12V Battery gets drained while in service mode. Bolt automagically shuts down all systems once voltage falls below a certain threshold. When all systems are shutdown, vampiric drain stops completely. It’s as if the 12V battery has been removed. 12V...

Bolt Winter Range and Driving Experience

With a Bluetooth OBDII reader and the right software on a tablet, it is possible to read the battery’s temperature. I believe that you can even read that data while the car is off. The OBDII port always has power, and some devices on the CAN bus never go to sleep, especially if the car is...

Our Bolt is Back or How a 12-Volt Battery Can Kill an Electric Car

The Bolt is supposed to automatically maintain the 12V battery if there is sufficient charge in the high voltage battery. I don’t know what level that is, though. Also, if you plug the car in to charge, it will automatically maintain the 12V battery while plugged in. If you plug in every night...

Towed To Dealer after 2 weeks 351 miles

I take it that in your 30 years of owning cars you’ve never had a 12V battery suddenly die? Never accidentally left an interior light on in the car? Forgot to turn the headlights off? Because so far what it sounds like happened is your 12V battery did just that. The computers in these cars don’t...

Towed To Dealer after 2 weeks 351 miles

I’ve had the battery in my Highlander Hybrid go flat twice in the last two years. In one of the cases it was because the car sat unused in the driveway for 4 weeks, and we kept walking past it with the key fob which kept “waking it up”, which probably caused a larger than expected vampiric drain...

Towed To Dealer after 2 weeks 351 miles

You are right to be pissed that OnStar and the tow company they sent gave you subpar service. And that the dealer is not being as informative as to what is going on with car. But you are not going to get a new Bolt to drive while they use yours to diagnose a what appears to be a problem with the...

    MyChevrolet app notifications not working

I usually get a notification when my Bolt finishes charging, and I use Hilltop Reserve. Lately the notification system has been a bit unreliable. For instance, yesterday I didn’t get a notification that my Bolt had finished charging, but this morning I did get it, but I didn’t receive the text...

LT Options - what's worth it, what's not?

    Remote start not working

You don’t need to play your music via Bluetooth if the phone is tethered to the car. Just use the USB interface instead. You still browse playlists, artists, etc. While OnStar does offer turn by turn navigation, it doesn’t provide a display. And in all likelihood, it relies on OnStar’s...

    Remote start not working

AndroidAuto or CarPlay is the only way to get Navigation on the center screen. The Bolt lacks a built-in Navigation unit. You also have to have the phone plugged in via USB. No wireless AndroidAuto or CarPlay.

    Range less than 200

If the car is brand new, I would ignore the lifetime efficiency number in the app. It is artificially low due to a number of factors, mostly related to QA testing at the factory. When I got mine, it reported a lifetime efficiency of 1.2 miles per kWh and the car only had 10 miles on it when I...
