2020 Chevy Bolt EV Battery Capacity Anecdotal Observation

I had a 2017 for three years (lease) then got a 2020. I live and drive in SF Bay Area. Mild weather year round. In the 2017 I almost always got 238 miles per full charge. In the 2020 I almost always get 259 miles on a full charge. The 2020 also takes 1 hour longer to charge on a Level 2...

    Towing behind RV/ regenerative charging

Yes. Completely doable. Towing with power on would be like going downhill. Forever. However the car would have to be in Drive which means it would try to creep forward when you stopped the RV. I don't know what it would do if it tried to push and couldn't. Probably nothing. If you put...

    Red Tail lights?

That is exactly right. Those are "auxiliary" brake lights / tail lights if you park or even drive with your hatchback open.

Tire Pressure, Miles per kWh & Range ..

Paul- How much did you pay for 4 tires? I paid $750 at time of lease for a "scratch, dent, and excessive wear waiver" which includes tires. I can return my 3/36,000 lease with bald tires and can go 1500 miles over 36,000.

    Cameras didn't turn off

Happened to me once. In my 2020 Bolt. Was fun for a while. But since it was locked on the video could not use the radio.

    Charge interruptions

Hi- It's been a long time since I posted because the Bolt has been virtually trouble free. I have noticed a few times, about 1 out of 4 times, that if I use the My Chevrolet App to check on my car while it is charging on a public level 2 charger, it temporarily stops the charging for 1 or 2...

    2020 owners!

I've only done it twice. And never bottom to top all at once. But with outside temps in the 60's I get this: I have a graph that I saved as .jpg but I can't get it to post here. Any ideas?

    2020 owners!

Thanks. Looks like keeping the battery low is the best method to save time at a DCFC. Lower end speed of charge looks better than the 2017 model year. But the top end of charging is as slow or maybe slower than before. Darn. I'm sure these decisions are made for good reason.

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

Deals are amazing through at least Feb3. I traded in my 2017 LT for a 2020 LT. Payments are $100 less per month for the same terms as before. After 6 years I will have paid 85% of MSRP for one car. Shopped around and there were no EV's I liked better. I'm SURE in 3 years there will be...

Must have Mods for Bolt EV

Change of tire had an immeasurable affect on range for me. I went a year on the stock "A" rated tires and 2 years on Riken Raptor "AA" rated tires and then recently went back to stock. Didn't notice anything different.

    2020 owners!

Another "bad" change. (Not sure what year this change happened.) In my 2017 you could press the fan speed button repeatedly and the speed would decrease .... 3, 2, 1, 0 with zero being off. In the 2020 the fan speed stops at 1. There is no way to turn off the fan via button. Only touch...

    2020 owners!

Seats as far as I can tell (Fabric / LT) are exactly the same. Oh I also noticed on that 50-60 degree day (about 58 - 60 at time of charging (noon) but the battery could have been a tad colder) it was adding heat from the DCFC for battery conditioning because I could hear all the fluids moving...

    2020 owners!

I'm doing my first DCFC in my 2020 now. I have noticed on a 58-60 degree day it is not stair stepping down on the charge rate. It has been a slow continuous taper down in charge rate. Started at 35% battery and 44kw charge rate and it has been a slow taper down. Now at 85% charge and 20 kw...

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

I'll ask for lease loyalty cash info clarification. I have a few more days before having to pull the trigger.

    2020 owners!

Any 2020 owners out there? I'm interested to hear your DCFC experiences. I have read elsewhere the max. DCFC rate is still 55 kw but it now charges at high rate at much colder temperatures, and maybe, just maybe for a wider swath of battery state of charge range. Chevy advertised 1.5 times...

Must have Mods for Bolt EV

What are the stickiest tires out there? I love the power and torque off the line but my tires spin all the time. I even upgraded the front from stock traction "A" tires to "AA" road rally tires and my wheels still squeal with a full pedal press. Is my only option to add lead weight to the front?!

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

Holy Cow! I just visited my local (CA) dealer. Prices on new 2020's are $11,000 below MSRP and like you said, the return fee is waived if you take home a new one. New base model LT plus DCFC $27,150 before taxes. To buy my 3 year old car with 36,000 miles on the odometer is $24,232 plus...

So are we all going to end up buying our cars after our leases are up?

Anyone turn one in yet? Anyone negotiate the residual? My 2017 is up Feb. 4th. Nothing wrong with mine. Figure the car was worth $30k new. I will have paid about $15k over the past 3 years. I'd be willing to pay up to $15k in residual but agree it would be stupid to pay over MSRP. (Mine...

    Pigtail for Bolt

Yes. The official safe input voltage for the EVSE is 96 volts AC to 266 volts AC. Cool it can have that wide of range. Sucks it can’t go to 277 volts. (I have 277 volts at work.)

    DCQC charging rates

Most ChargePoint DCFC that are floor standing models (not pole mounted) are “rated” at 50 kw and tend to shove 44kw to 47kw into the Bolt. The newest Chargepoint DCFC is “rated” at 62.5 kw (I hear it is capable of more but software limited to 62.5 kw). It will shove about 55kw into the Bolt...
