Chevrolet invites press to autocross Bolt EV against the GTI

It looks like a Bolt with summer tires won.

How do you turn the radio off?

There is already a topic for this. There is no direct way to turn off the audio, believe it or not. IIRC, plugging an empty thumb drive, or possibly even just a USB cable, into the USB port should cause the audio to default to that input, and thus produce silence due to lack of music on the drive.

Tire Pressure, Miles per kWh & Range ..

Low forties generally works fine. These are heavy cars, and the recommended 38psi (36 for the Leaf!) is a bit too low. The tires were probably being deformed enough by bumps to let a little air get passed the sidewalls.

How many actual Bolt owners on this forum?

To make it worse for them, they are unlikely to have even heard about problems with the battery. If they read about it in social media, it will likely be the QC throttling, not the degradation that the throttling appears intended to slow.

Second Replacement Battery In Three Months

With GM coming out with several more EVs in the near future, and at least some of them likely based on the Bolt drivetrain, your best hope would be if they come out with larger, better packs for them that can be adapted to fit the Bolt as well.

If that was ever true, it no longer is. No more Frigid winters here, and very few mild Summers. I too was able to slow degradation by changing my charging habits, but having to do that means inadequate battery cooling. And the 40kwh pack has less passive cooling than my 24kwh pack, with more...

Filter updated. Anyway, just to make it a little clearer, this really was an agonizing choice for me. What it came down to in the end was that with a Leaf I could get everything I wanted in one car - except cloth seats. The "new" Leaf has very adequate power, handles fine for me, and has a...

    Battery life

The issue is actually with mining the lithium. It is indeed a very dirty process.

First, I leased it. Second, the Bolt would likely turn to be the "dick move" for me, because of the harsh ride and poor seats. Third, if I do grow to like the Leaf, I'll be able to afford to buy it off lease, unlike the Bolt. Finally, since I have to turn in my $17k residual (plus tax) 2013 Leaf...

Second Replacement Battery In Three Months

This reasonable, but it should be noted that it took Nissan almost 7 years to do this with Leaf packs. Part of the reason is that few people would be happy getting a refurbished pack as a replacement on an almost brand new car.

Do you think I'll be able to tow a small boat with the Bolt?

If you plan to use regen to help brake the rig, make sure to use the Hilltop Mode for charging. Otherwise you'll not have that second braking system at the start of a trip.

Thanks. How many folks here hate the interior of their car, and did before they even picked it up? I had to get white with light grey leather seats (I'm a vegetarian) to get Around View (same dick move that GM made) and I'm getting the light color to slow battery heating in Summer. Oh, and...

How many actual Bolt owners on this forum?

Having been on the Leaf/Bolt fence for many months, I put a deposit on a 2018 Leaf today. I'm not here to crow, though: I'm not happy with the choices and compromises I've had to make, and I'm really, REALLY not happy with the choices that Nissan has made with the 40kwh battery. I'll be envying...

    How's your caps lock key?

What do you know, it Fits........

You misunderstand - I'm not upset, just trying to provide a good analysis of the situation. Heck, I once towed a junked Volvo P1800S with a Volvo 122S - both cars were the same size.

Good luck. Keep in mind that, for example, you are technically parked in front of that fire hydrant in the photo, and actually might obstruct it in some situations.

What do you know, it Fits........

That front overhang is what is going to get you into trouble, I think. I'd be amazed if that were legal. Also, when I tried an adapter shim for a bike rack on another setup, there was too much play in the receiver with the shim in place for safety. Hopefully your setup has no such play.

    Dead Bolt, battery suspected

It's a common Leaf mod to replace the original starting battery with a Yellow Top or AGM, or even just a larger size starting battery. Some Bolt owners might benefit from that as well.

    Dead Bolt, battery suspected

The invoice seems pretty clear that it was the 12 volt accessory battery. These batteries are just regular starting batteries, and the dealership has a device that measures the capacity of these little batteries in CCAs. There is no mystery here. The car may have been left in Transport mode.

    Bolt as a Powerwall

With the Leaf you can connect an inverter of up to 2kw (with draw limited to 1500 watts for safety) to the 12 bolt battery and chassis ground. As long as the car is left in Ready to drive mode, the DC-DC converter will replace the power drained from the 12 volt battery as needed. This CANNOT be...
