Battery Degradation 2020 Bolt Relative to 2017 Bolt EV

Yeah, it's complicated. I simplified it to keep it short. ;) I charge once a week at most. We take weekly road trips and I usually before we leave on a trip. Paul

Battery Degradation 2020 Bolt Relative to 2017 Bolt EV

    1. Setup Torque Pro with OBD dongle then setup PID from Sean Graham's web site. Download the spreadsheet and install the PIDs for "Batt Cap" or some such. Pick the right PID for your model year. Sean explains all this. 2. Setup a log book to record the Batt Cap every time you charge. Also...

Battery Degradation 2020 Bolt Relative to 2017 Bolt EV

With our Pandemic Peregrinations we’ve driven our 2020 Bolt EV far more during its first year of operation than we did our previous 2017 Bolt during its first year. We drove the 2020 Bolt about 50% more during its first year (~15,000 miles) than we did the first year of our 2017 Bolt (~10,000...

Winter Range Loss (or Not) Chevy Bolt EV in Bakersfield California

Recently I fielded a query from friend seeking comment on a widely circulated article by Recurrent on winter range loss in EVs. The implication of the query was that this somehow implies that EVs are not suitable in the winter. Worse, that if you like to hike and explore the outdoors, you can’t...

Sierra Nevada East Side Open More DCFC Stations on US 395

Caltrans' District 9 office has announced that five new DC Fast Charge stations for electric vehicles have gone live. District 9 serves Inyo, Mono and eastern Kern County on the east side of the Sierra Nevada. The DCFC stations are located along US 395 that runs north and south through the...

VINDICATED: Finally - GM to launch updated vehicle navigation system

Yeah, I am a convert to CarPlay/AndroidAuto. It works for me--as long as there's cell coverage. Unfortunately, there's quite a bit of area we go that doesn't have cell phone coverage. paul

    Measured battery capacity 63.2 kWh

This is similar to my results. See my article 2020 Chevy Bolt EV Battery Capacity Anecdotal Observation on this web site. My conclusion was 64 kWh from purchase to 2,000 miles. My take is that marketing took control of the numbers when LG Chem began building batteries in Michigan. Paul

Caltrans' New DCFC Stations: Charging the Way it should be

This is the way fast charging a non-Tesla EV should be. Pull up, plug in, tap a few numbers on an easily readable screen and start charging. Easy peasy. No RFID card, no credit card, no app. Plug in and go. That’s what we found on one of our recent Covid-19 escapes when we needed to charge at a...

Slight Chevy Bolt Traction Battery Degradation after Nearly 30,000 Miles

Just a bump. I posted an article based on the first 3,000 miles. I may have posted it here--though this web site is awkward for posters. Here's the link. 2020 Chevy Bolt EV Battery Capacity Anecdotal Observation November 29, 2020, by Paul Gipe After two months of driving a 2020 Chevy Bolt...

Slight Chevy Bolt Traction Battery Degradation after Nearly 30,000 Miles

One of the concerns about battery electric vehicles is the amount of degradation the battery suffers during normal use. We drove a Chevy Bolt for three years, clocking nearly 30,000 miles on the odometer. We tracked the car’s performance during this time, including changes in the battery’s...

2020 Chevy Bolt EV Battery Capacity Anecdotal Observation

2020 Chevy Bolt EV Battery Capacity Anecdotal Observation After two months of driving a 2020 Chevy Bolt for some 2,000 miles we've found that the traction battery of our car has a capacity of 64 kWh, not the 66 kWh advertised. More interestingly, the 2020 battery pack of our car has only 2.5...

Data Request for 2020 Bolt Battery Capacity Measurements

I am looking for drivers of 2020 Bolts who have kept records of consumption and State-of-Charge. What I am looking for are records of Odometer reading; State-of-Charge; kWh consumed If you have such records, please send them to me, [email protected]. Note: do not send me anything confidential...

Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe in our Bolt

There's two CP kiosks going in at the Denny's and I think an EV Connect unit at the airport that's not activated in Mojave. In a few months EA won't be the only place to charge. Paul

    RECALL

No. GM says it can't do over the air software updates. I don't recommend that drivers use the GOM as a gauge of what their cars are doing. There are other metrics to use that are more reliable. Paul

How Much I Paid for My Bolt

That's a good deal. You can always get a better one it may seem but it's better to take a good deal in hand than two better deals in the bush. ;) Paul
