Re: Winter Tires

I need tires by Thanksgiving also but I'm not thrilled about a winter set, swapping them and storing them. But I have the advantage that I am pretty much only local commuting and running errands in the suburbs of Chicago, about 20 miles a day typically. I can charge at home at L2 so I'm going to gi...

Re: Recargo's DCFC Station Contract on 101 in Central California

FYI, I posted a somewhat related article today about the charging site status of another of the CEC grantees — EV Connect — which is building more DC charging along CA 99. EV Connect built DC chargers at 3 of 11 CEC grant sites; scrambles to add 6 more https://electricrevs.com/2019/09/17/ev-connect-...

Re: DCFC: Difficult "handshake" to initiate charge

I'm under the impression that the CCS standard just isn't as robust as the big stupid CHADEMO connectors with their CAN bus interface, at least as popularly implemented. The weight of the cable seems a bit excessive for the mechanical size of the plug and the plastic. Maybe they need to water cool ...

Re: Electrify America rolls out new app and prices

I just wrote up a status report on the rollout of California sites versus the rest of the country.

Re: Electrify America rolls out new app and prices

Let's hope they can get the bugs worked out of their chargers. I have tried about 15 different EA chargers and only 3 worked! I think it would be useful for Spark EV and Bolt EV drivers to post their experiences on this forum so we all can see if EA is making progress or not. When the chargers work...

Re: DCQC charging rates

I said about 15 miles, not 15 minutes. That included a brief stint on the Mass Pike. I have been driving EVs for about 5 years, and over 50K miles. The battery pack wasn't too cold to take 50kW. The problem is the wimpy EVgo unit. Oops, sorry about misreading that. But, that implies that your 15 mi...

Re: DCFC Stations Bakersfield to the Sierra Nevada East Side Coming

CalTrans' DCFC Stations on the East Side Not Yet Out to Bid--EA's Under Construction While funding for CalTrans' District 9 DC Fast Charge stations under the state's 30-30 program has been approved, the stations have yet to go out for bid. Bids likely will be released in July 2019 with construction...

Re: DCQC charging rates

I used an EVgo unit (eastbound on Mass Pike, near Exit 13) and only got around 22kW, which is pretty disappointing. Very likely due to a cold battery. And remember, the battery temperature changes slowly so it might be 45F outside when you charge but the pack itself may be colder from spending the ...
