Re: Cold Weather Issues

Other than loss of range due to the issues related to cold weather, has anyone had any issues that are the result of cold winter driving? Mine is very happy in the cold weather with heating that works well a fairly normal driving experience, We have hit -30 degrees this winter with wind chills at -...

Re: Some Tesla owners are giving Tesla a bad image!

We tend to make the mistake of judging people by the cars they drive. Wish that would stop. It's a safe bet there are a few assholes taking the bus too.

Re: The Q4 Numbers are in for GM.

It would be nice to have a friend that can get you into lease-return auctions, so that you can pick a car up for CHEAP, instead of paying dealer prices. My Manheim account allows me to view auctions, but not participate because I haven't renewed the subscription in a long time. I'm not a dealer per...

Re: The Q4 Numbers are in for GM.

I think part of the problem is the lack of marketing and lack of awareness of the heavy Bolt discounting in the US. Perhaps. I think the bigger issue (if it is one for GM) is this: Does GM really want to sell 100,000 Bolts per year? I'm not particularly an Elon Musk fan, but he was in the ballpark ...

Re: The Q4 Numbers are in for GM.

I've been away from the forum for a while. Thought I'd catch up, and see how everyone is enjoying their EV's. Only 18,000 Bolts sold in 2018. That is so disappointing. I remember all the hope and promise of the Bolt being a "game changer" and Model 3 "killer". I also recall lofty...

Re: Extending battery life

"Just set hilltop reserve, and set the departure time to be 30 mins before peak rate ends, and simply plug in the car. It will start charging at the proper time to have the battery 'full' (about 88% of the 'usable' capacity) just before peak rates end. Since the 'usable' capacity is about 90-92...

Re: Solar PV - Save Money & Shrink Carbon Footprint

In this part BC were 8 cents low tier and 12 cents high tier rate plus running fees, it's safe to assume with grid tie you'd never bump up into the 2nd tier and utilities buy back surplus power at I believe 10 cents as a credit payed back in cash yearly, my maths on a wholesale self installed 5ish ...

Re: Bolt winter performance, an ICE comparison

I'm not sure how that relates to the question. Are those the tires that OilerLord is using? Did I miss where he mentioned that? I have a set of 225-50/R-17 Pirelli-Winter SOTTOZERO 3 tires on the Benz. They stop well in winter...but from experience, I think these may be HRR tires. I've had a dramat...

Re: Solar PV - Save Money & Shrink Carbon Footprint

The system is Sunpower 327 watt panels (about 20% efficient), and it is warranted for 25 years. The system will pay for itself in just over 5 years, with all the incentives, and in less than 10 years without them. It is a 10kW system on the AC output, and the estimated annual output is just under 1...

Re: Bolt winter performance, an ICE comparison

Actually, no, it's not the same. A cold battery holds less energy than a warm one. I think ideal temperature is about 60-70F. So in winter, you get a double-hit to range. Your battery holds energy, yet it takes more energy to heat and drive (cold air is denser, causing more drag). I've also found t...
