For Washington state residents, the Bolt qualifies for the 6.5% sales tax exemption and is exempt from paying the .3% multimodal transportation sales tax when purchasing a new vehicle.

This exemption remains in effect until either 7,500 alternative fuel vehicles are sold in Washington state or July 1, 2019, which ever comes first.

My post from yesterday on another thread on these boards:

An update for you WA residents: I called the WA DOL and asked about the Bolt and it not being listed on the official list of vehicles exempt from some sales taxes. Of course, I got the answer "But the Volt is on the list". This name thing is going to get really old.

Once I clarified for them they looked at the Chevy website, saw the car for sale, read the requirements and said "We'll call you back about the list".

They called 4 hours later and said the official WA list will be updated to include the Bolt and will be published by the end of this week.

You are welcome, future Bolt owners in WA. You can watch here for the updated list:

The Sales Tax exemption only applies to the first $32,000 of the sales price, so there will still be some sales tax owed (lease payments are exempt from tax).
While the references to the codes are great to have, here is a FAQ that puts it all together in (relatively) plain English:

http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/docs/faq-altfuleexemptions.pdf

The FAQ is missing which two sales taxes are exempt and the amount of the sales tax. Nor does it make clear that any local sales tax is not exempt.
