Electric vehicle owners of vehicles capable of being re-energized by an external source and traveling 30 miles or more on battery power are subject to a 150 dollar annual registration fee in Washington state.

So you have to pay 150??? Man that sucks

Yes....in contrast with ICE cars that pay about $35/year. As a percent it is a pretty huge increase. However, it is still probably not near what ICE cars pay in state gasoline taxes.

That's just a start.

You can add in another $500 to $600 per year for licensing and transit taxes on a new Bolt if you live in the Sound Transit service area. All but a $100 dollars is Sound Transit taxes.

ICE vehicles pay 67.8 cents a gallon for road taxes instead of the $150, plus all the licensing and transit taxes.

Electric vehicles get hit especially hard for Sound Transit taxes since the cars depreciate so fast.

Perhaps this explains the dearth of DCFC chargers between Portland and Seattle.

But you have a Bolt. You can easily make it to the Tacoma Mall even with the heat on. :)

Anyhow, the WDOT has a million bucks for faster DC chargers and suppose to be taking applications for loans and grants this year. A million bucks wouldn't go far, but it's a start.
