Hi there,

I have a 2021 Bolt EV and yesterday I had my foot lightly on the brake and was moving about 1 mph. I put the gear into park when the car wasn't completely still and heard a grinding noise. I was in reverse going into a parking space. Did I do any damage? I don't see any warning lights and the car seems fine, but I definitely made a driving error, the car should have been completely stopped when I shifted into park.

Thank you,
Jerry

I think you're fine. That grinding sound you heard was probably the parking brake being applied.

Yes, perfectly normal. Mine does too on our slight slope of a driveway. Even our Forester makes a racket when it self-applies braking. I don't know how cars apply braking but much more dramatic than me stepping on the pedal.

That may also have been the parking pawl making the noise. Should be ok, as long as you don't do it a lot. ;)
