Hello chevycustomercare,

Is the Bolt capable of Adaptive Cruise Control?

I know it uses the front camera for collision avoidance detection, but are there radar sensors in the front?, or a list the proper connectors in the wiring harness just waiting for sensors to be installed and the PCM to be reprogrammed?

Best Regards.

The Bolt does not have Adaptive Cruise control. BUT it does have most other modern Safety features, such as too close following distance warning.

Apparently the Bolt needs a slightly different braking system to implement ACC.
There is a thread about it already if you search for it.

I would say that ACC is a primarily convenience feature. If it qualifies as a safety feature at all, it's just barely.

AFAIK, the only significant safety feature the Bolt is missing is adaptive headlights. I could also wish for a shorter braking distance. But overall, I think Bolt is pretty solid on safety, and short on convenience. Hopefully, crash testing won't show otherwise...

Wouldn't adaptive cruise control mean that the car already has the hardware and software to implement emergency automatic braking from any speed? Adaptive cruise control will slow the car to match the speed of the car in front of it, presumably all the way down to zero.

In IIHS testing of the Chevrolet Volt, having the adaptive cruise control improved emergency automatic braking performance starting at 25mph.

I see no such conclusion in the IIHS report. ACC is just the name of the package they tested. It's the actual safety features such as forward collision alert an auto braking that they rated highly for safety. ACC is not found to improve their performance. Where are you seeing that??

Bolt does have the hw and sw for auto emergency braking, but does not have ACC.

Compare these two parts of the IIHS report on the Volt:

No, you are misunderstanding. What's happening is that Chevrolet packages the high-speed forward braking feature together with the ACC feature. ACC is not improving the effectiveness of forward braking, you just can't get forward braking (other than low-speed forward braking) on the Volt without also taking ACC.

Hi Zago,

Unfortunately, the Bolt EV is not capable of supporting our Adaptive Cruise Control feature. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
